Approximately 1.25 million of America's prisoners have mental illness. Our vulnerable neighbors and relatives should not become prison inmates due to offenses arising from lack of treatment. Acute patients should be hospital outpatients or inpatients, not prison inmates. The slogan at NNIA1 is "justice for all."
